Our business was started in 1950 by Stan and Johanna (Jo) Van Vliet, manufacturing 2" venetian blinds. Sheldon Venetian Blind Co. made custom 2" metal and wood horizontal blinds in a small house on 6th Avenue, about where Doc Z's house is now. In the mid-1950's the business was moved to a house on Highway 18, were it has been ever since. Stan and Jo adapted to the changes in window treatments over the years and added manufacturing custom draperies, therefore the house had two additions which expanded the showroom and custom drapery workroom
The name of the business changed to Sheldon Drape & Blind, and later to Sheldon Drapery & Interiors when floorcoverings were added to the products sold. Alan and Deb Van Maanen started working for Stan and Jo in 1980, part-time at first, recording and retaping 2" venetian blinds and later full-time installing custom draperies, blinds and shades. Alan and Deb purchased the business from Stan and Jo (Deb's parents) in the mid-1980's
Alan and Deb sold the land occupied by Sheldon Drapery and Interiors for development and Vogel Paint and Glass in Sheldon will be continuing the Hunter Douglas Showcase dealership. Alan will be working with them installing window treatments and learning the trade of a glazier.
We have enjoyed helping people enhance their homes and businesses, making them havens for families and enjoyable for customers and employees. We thank our customers for placing their confidence in Sheldon Drapery & Interiors and we look forward to continue helping them at Vogel Paint and Glass.
